DUBAI, UAE – UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has shared a message with the Dubai community, including residents, visitors and those who love the emirate, setting out seven principles that he believes should guide life in Dubai.

The message appears in his new book, “The Letters”, and focuses not on Dubai’s buildings and infrastructure alone, but on the people and values that shape the city’s society. Sheikh Mohammed describes Dubai as “a home for the world, a home for people and a home for life.”

He says Dubai has developed into a beautiful city and a harmonious society, while stressing that its future depends on continuing to learn, improve and preserve the values that have shaped its journey.

Seven principles for life in Dubai

H.H. Sheikh Mohammed outlines seven key rules for life in Dubai:

1. Responsibility
He describes responsibility as something that begins within every individual. Employees, leaders, parents, teachers, doctors, businesses and government all have responsibilities towards others and the wider community.

2. Respect for people
Respect for human dignity is presented as a foundation of civilisation. The message calls for respect for people regardless of their religion, culture, age, profession or differences of opinion.

3. Excellence
Sheikh Mohammed emphasises that excellence in everyday work is one of the strongest messages Dubai can present to the world, from airport employees and road workers to engineers and businesses.

4. Humility
He links humility with achievement, saying that remaining humble after success can encourage people to aim even higher.

5. Optimism
The message calls for confidence in a better future, with challenges viewed as opportunities for creativity and progress.

6. Doing good
Helping others, offering kindness and supporting people in difficulty are presented as everyday responsibilities that help create a stronger society.

7. Loyalty to the nation
The final principle focuses on loyalty to the UAE, respect for its Constitution and laws, protection of its achievements and commitment to values including honesty, justice, integrity, respect, excellence and responsibility.

‘The real miracle is building a society’

The message concludes with a broader reflection on what makes a city successful.

H.H. Sheikh Mohammed says that building structures and engineering cities is not the real miracle. The greater achievement, he says, is building a society based on meaning, principles and values.

For the millions of people who call Dubai home, including its large international resident community, the message places the human experience at the centre of the emirate’s continuing journey.

The message is therefore not simply about where people live, but about how people live together.

“He signed off simply as: ‘Your brother, Mohammed.“
