New Delhi, INDIA / Dubai, UAE- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah and expressed his condolences over the loss of lives in the devastating floods in Nepal.
During the phone conversation, Prime Minister Modi assured his counterpart Shah that India is ready to provide all possible humanitarian assistance, including support for rescue and relief operations. India and Nepal are also coordinating closely as rescue teams continue efforts in the affected areas.
The floods have caused major destruction in Nepal, particularly in Rasuwa district near the border with Tibet. Villages, roads, bridges and power projects have been damaged after a sudden surge of water and debris hit the area.
At least nine people have been reported dead, while hundreds of people remain missing. Nepalese authorities have reported that 384 people are unaccounted for, including 105 Indian nationals. Rescue operations are continuing despite difficult weather and damaged roads in the affected areas.
Nepal has deployed its army, police and other security forces for rescue and relief work. Authorities have also moved residents from vulnerable downstream areas to safer locations because of fears of further flooding.
Prime Minister Modi said India stands with the people of Nepal during the crisis. His offer of assistance comes as Nepal continues to search for missing people and provide emergency help to those affected by the floods.
The situation remains serious, and officials are continuing to assess the damage and the number of people affected as rescue operations move forward.
