Dubai, UAE- The United Arab Emirates is preparing to celebrate UAE Flag Day on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, with citizens and residents across the country expected to come together to raise the national flag and express their pride, loyalty and love for the nation.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has called on citizens, residents, government institutions, ministries, schools, universities and families across all seven emirates to participate in this important national occasion by raising the UAE flag.

In his message ahead of the celebrations, Sheikh Mohammed described Flag Day as a special national moment that brings the country and its people together before a symbol of honour, identity and pride. He encouraged everyone to raise the flag high and concluded his message with the words, “Long live the nation, and long live the flag.”

UAE Flag Day is celebrated every year on 3 November. The occasion was announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on 11 December 2012, and the first celebration took place in 2013.

The date has a special place in the country’s history. It marks the anniversary of the accession of the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan as President of the UAE on 3 November 2004.

Since its introduction, Flag Day has become an important occasion for people across the Emirates to show their connection with the country and its leadership. Government departments, schools, universities, private companies and community organisations take part in flag raising ceremonies and other activities.

The UAE flag is more than a national symbol. It represents the journey of the country, the vision of its founding fathers and the achievements made through the efforts of its people.

The UAE flag was first raised on 2 December 1971 by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the UAE, following the formation of the Union.

The flag has four colours, red, green, white and black. Each colour carries an important meaning and reflects values connected with the country’s identity and history.

Green represents growth, prosperity and progress. White reflects peace, generosity and good deeds. Black represents strength, resilience and courage, while red symbolises the sacrifices made by earlier generations in protecting the nation.

Together, these colours reflect the values that have helped shape the UAE and its development into a country known for its ambition, progress and international standing.

Flag Day is also an opportunity to bring younger generations closer to the history and values of the UAE. Schools across the country mark the occasion through flag raising ceremonies, special assemblies and educational activities.

For students, it is a chance to understand the importance of the national flag and the story behind the formation of the Union.

Government and private sector organisations also participate by displaying the national flag at their buildings and workplaces. Families and residents are encouraged to take part by raising the flag at their homes.

The occasion brings together people from different nationalities and backgrounds who have made the UAE their home. It reflects a shared appreciation for the country’s safety, opportunities, leadership and development.

UAE Flag Day on 3 November 2026 is not an official public holiday. Government offices, schools and private sector organisations are expected to follow their normal working schedules, while celebrations and flag raising activities take place during the day.

The traditional nationwide flag raising ceremony is held at 11am, although individual organisations and schools may communicate their own arrangements.

More Than a Flag

Every year, UAE Flag Day provides an opportunity to remember the country’s journey from the formation of the Union in 1971 to the achievements it has made over the decades.

The flag represents a shared national identity and the values of unity, loyalty, respect and commitment. For Emiratis and the many residents who call the UAE home, raising the flag is a meaningful way to recognise the country and its continued journey.

As the UAE prepares to mark Flag Day on 3 November, the message remains clear: the national flag belongs to a nation united by its history, strengthened by its people and inspired by its future.
