Dubai, UAE- Dubai witnessed a spectacular display of fitness, energy and community spirit on Sunday morning as thousands of cyclists took to Sheikh Zayed Road for Dubai Ride 2026. One of the city’s busiest highways was transformed into a cycling track, giving residents and visitors a unique opportunity to experience Dubai on two wheels.
The seventh edition of Dubai Ride, presented by DP World, took place today on 1 November as part of the 10th Dubai Fitness Challenge. The event brought together cycling enthusiasts, families, children and people of different fitness levels, all sharing a common interest in staying active and healthy.
Participants had two routes to choose from. The 12 kilometre Sheikh Zayed Road route was designed for more experienced cyclists, while the 4 kilometre Downtown Family Route offered a shorter and easier experience for families, children and beginners.
The longer route allowed cyclists to ride past some of Dubai’s most recognised landmarks, including the Museum of the Future, Dubai Water Canal and Burj Khalifa. Those choosing the family route enjoyed a ride through Downtown Dubai, passing Dubai Mall, Dubai Opera and the Burj Khalifa.
The event started early in the morning, with the cycling routes opening at 6.15am. Participants were expected to begin their rides by 7.30am, with the routes scheduled to close at 8am.
To support the large number of participants, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority arranged special transport measures. Dubai Metro services started at 3am, allowing cyclists and visitors to reach the event early. Temporary road closures were also introduced around the cycling routes to ensure the smooth movement and safety of participants.
Dubai Ride is not a competitive race. It is a community event that encourages people of all ages to enjoy cycling at a comfortable pace. Participants were required to wear helmets and follow the safety instructions, including the maximum speed limit of 25 kilometres per hour.
The event reflects the wider objectives of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, which encourages residents and visitors to complete 30 minutes of physical activity every day for 30 days. The 2026 edition runs from 31 October to 29 November, offering a month of fitness activities, sporting events and community programmes across the city.
Launched in 2017 by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, the Dubai Fitness Challenge has grown into one of the city’s major community initiatives.
Over the years, Dubai Ride has become a popular feature of the challenge, allowing people to experience the city’s roads and landmarks in a completely different way. It also highlights Dubai’s commitment to promoting healthier lifestyles and making physical activity accessible to everyone.
For many participants, Sunday’s ride was more than a cycling experience. It was an opportunity to enjoy the city, spend time with family and friends and be part of a large community celebration.
With Dubai Ride 2026 bringing cyclists together once again, the city has sent a strong message about the importance of fitness, well-being and an active lifestyle.
