Dubai, UAE- The UAE is preparing to implement a major expansion of its single-use plastic ban starting January 1, 2026, marking the next step in the country’s environmental sustainability journey. This new phase of the ban targets commonly used items such as plastic cups, plates, cutlery, straws, stirrers, and lightweight bags, which will no longer be allowed for import, manufacturing, or sale unless they meet approved eco-friendly standards. The initiative aims to encourage both businesses and consumers to adopt reusable, biodegradable, or recycled alternatives, reducing plastic pollution and supporting the nation’s broader goals of a circular economy. Authorities are urging the public to prepare in advance, while companies are being guided on transitioning their operations and supply chains. This move reflects the UAE’s commitment to global sustainability standards and its ambition to balance rapid development with environmental responsibility.
