Dubai, UAE- Arabian Travel Market 2026 opened today at Dubai World Trade Centre, bringing together the global travel and tourism community for four days of business, networking, knowledge exchange and collaboration. The 33rd edition, running from September 14 to 17, arrives at an important moment for the industry, with destinations, airlines, hotels and technology companies looking beyond immediate recovery towards a more connected, intelligent and experience driven future.

Held under the theme “Travel 2040: Driving New Frontiers Through Innovation and Technology,” the event places innovation, artificial intelligence and evolving traveller expectations at the centre of discussions. The theme reflects a significant shift in the tourism industry, where success is increasingly measured not only by visitor numbers but also by the quality, personalisation and integration of the overall travel experience.

“His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, today visited the 33rd edition of Arabian Travel Market (ATM), being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre until 17 September.”

One of the most important developments this year is the debut of ATM Travel Tech, a dedicated co located show designed to highlight technologies shaping the future of travel. Supported by the Tech and Innovation Hub, the new platform gives technology providers, tourism businesses and industry decision makers a dedicated space to examine practical solutions for a rapidly changing market.

The wider conference programme is also expected to explore artificial intelligence, smart hospitality, robotics, predictive guest services and digital innovation. These technologies are becoming increasingly relevant as hotels and travel companies seek to improve operational efficiency while offering more personalised services. The central question for the sector is no longer whether technology will influence tourism, but how effectively businesses can use it without losing the human element of hospitality.

At the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) Dubai, Hon’ble Minister for Energy & Tourism, Government of Karnataka, Shri K. J. George, inaugurated the Karnataka Tourism stall. The stall showcases Karnataka’s rich heritage, diverse landscapes, vibrant cultural traditions and distinctive tourism experiences to the global travel and tourism community in Dubai. Karnataka’s participation at ATM Dubai reflects its commitment to expanding its global tourism outreach and strengthening engagement with the UAE and international tourism stakeholders.”

A major theme emerging from the event is the changing definition of travel. Visitors are increasingly seeking experiences that combine accommodation with culture, heritage, gastronomy, wellness, adventure and entertainment.

This shift creates opportunities for destinations to present a more complete tourism offering rather than relying on individual attractions. It also encourages collaboration among hotels, airlines, tourism authorities, restaurants, cultural institutions and experience providers.

For the Middle East, this direction is particularly relevant as countries continue investing in new destinations, tourism infrastructure and diversified visitor experiences. The region’s growing emphasis on integrated tourism supports a broader ambition to attract longer stays, repeat visitors and travellers with different interests and spending patterns.

Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism is leading the emirate’s participation, supported by over 100 co exhibitors from its tourism ecosystem. The participation reflects Dubai’s public and private sector approach to tourism development, bringing hotels, destination operators, attractions and other industry stakeholders together under one platform.

The event also follows a major tourism industry briefing held by Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism in June, which brought together over a 1000 leaders from across the emirate’s tourism ecosystem. This underlines the importance of collaboration as Dubai continues strengthening its position as a global destination for business and leisure.

Dubai Police’s participation through its Tourist Police Department is particularly significant because it presents security as an essential part of tourism infrastructure. The showcase highlights services including the Dubai Police application, Circulars and Travel Bans service, Police Eye, Tourist Support, the Smart Lost and Found system and the Esaad Card Centre’s offers and benefits. The participation also includes awareness initiatives focused on cybercrime prevention, tourist security and online fraud. For international visitors, these services can provide reassurance while travelling, exploring the city and using digital platforms. The wider message is that Dubai’s tourism proposition is not limited to attractions, shopping and hospitality. It also includes safety, accessibility, digital assistance and institutional support, all of which contribute to visitor confidence.

The opening day also comes against a backdrop of improving travel demand. Emirates reported that it carried more than 8.6 million passengers during July and August, while operating at approximately 93 per cent of its pre disruption capacity. The airline said winter bookings are showing positive momentum across several markets, including South Africa, Brazil, India, Egypt and Nepal.

Dubai Airports has also indicated that it expects to handle approximately 70 million passengers by the end of 2026. Although the figure reflects a revised outlook, it signals continued confidence in the recovery of Dubai’s aviation and tourism ecosystem.

International participation remains a defining feature of ATM. Visit Qatar, for example, is presenting its tourism portfolio through a massive pavilion, accompanied by 50 partners, including hotels and destination management companies. Its pavilion includes immersive experiences and live demonstrations of traditional crafts, showing how destinations are using culture and technology together to engage the travel trade.

The first day of ATM 2026 makes one message clear: the future of tourism will depend on stronger partnerships, smarter technology and more meaningful visitor experiences. As the industry looks towards 2040, Dubai is once again positioning itself as a meeting point where global travel ideas, investment and innovation can translate into practical opportunities for the next phase of tourism growth.
