New Delhi, India / Dubai, UAE- On my recent visit to New Delhi, India, a beautiful food memory suddenly came alive. I was reminded of a place that has been attracting food lovers from across India and beyond for years. I am talking about Sikkim Restaurant House, located inside Sikkim House in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.
I had visited this restaurant almost 10 years ago, and this time I returned with my family for lunch. What I experienced was nothing short of a heavenly Himalayan food journey.
The restaurant has been beautifully renovated and now offers a spacious, comfortable and warm environment. There is something wonderfully homely about the place. The moment you enter, you almost feel as if you have travelled from Delhi into the Himalayan region of Northeast India.
The location itself adds to the experience. Situated in the diplomatic heart of Chanakyapuri, the restaurant attracts diplomats and visitors from various embassies who come to enjoy its authentic Indian, Tibetan, Chinese and Nepali cuisine. Parking is ample and, importantly, free.
Our experience began with a refreshing Apple Beer, a non alcoholic drink with a wonderfully authentic apple flavour that reminded me of the fresh apples of the hills.
CONTD…………….

My daughter ordered French Fries and Hakka Noodles, and both were excellent. The noodles were generously loaded with fresh green vegetables and onion, offering a lovely balance of taste and freshness. The quantity was so generous that three people could easily enjoy the portion.

I then tried two soups, the Vegetable Hot and Sour Soup and the Manchow Soup. Both were outstanding. The Hot and Sour Soup was rich with vegetables and had a beautiful depth of flavour, while the Manchow Soup was wonderfully comforting, topped with crispy noodles that added the perfect crunch. These soups were truly refreshing and opened up the appetite for what was to follow.
Then came the highlight of my lunch.
I asked the chef Vishal Khatri for a recommendation, and he suggested the Nepali BBQ Smoked Chicken Choila, a special dish prepared with authentic Himalayan and Nepali flavors. The chef, who belongs to Nepal, advised me that it could be a little spicy. I decided to go for it.
The chicken was beautifully marinated, deeply flavored and wonderfully smoked. The boneless pieces were tender, juicy and packed with character. Yes, there was a good level of spice, but the taste was so addictive that I simply could not stop eating. Once again, the portion was generous enough for two or three people to enjoy comfortably.

I observed that the momos, thukpa and thenthuk at Sikkim Restaurant House are a beautiful celebration of traditional Himalayan comfort food. The momos are carefully hand shaped, giving them a wonderful homemade character, while the thukpa offers a warm, hearty bowl of noodles and vegetables in a deeply comforting broth. The thenthuk, known for its hand pulled noodles, takes the experience a step further with its rustic texture and authentic Himalayan feel.
What makes these dishes even more special is the handmade touch. In a world of ready made and machine produced food, there is something genuinely satisfying about enjoying noodles and dumplings prepared with care by hand. Each bite feels fresh, personal and rooted in Himalayan culinary tradition. For anyone wanting to experience the warmth and soul of Himalayan food, these are dishes worth trying.
The authentic Chinese sauces served with the meal were another delightful touch. Rich, flavourful and beautifully balanced, they added just the right combination of savoury, tangy and spicy notes to the dishes. Each dip brought a different character to the food, making every bite even more enjoyable.
And what a wonderful decision it was to bring my family to Sikkim Restaurant House.
A special word must also go to Ms. Keshang, the restaurant manager, who was personally involved in attending the guests. Her warmth, politeness and genuine attention to customers made the experience even more special. I must highlight that Niraj Bhattrai and the entire team appeared extremely well trained, courteous and attentive.
Having returned after 10 years, I can say that the transformation has been remarkable. Yet, the warmth and food memories that made this place special earlier still remain.

I usually write only about what I personally try, and this review is no different. There is much more on the menu for food lovers to explore, and I would certainly encourage visitors to try the other Himalayan, Tibetan, Nepali, Chinese and Indian specialties as well.
Sikkim Restaurant House is not simply a place to eat. It is a place where food takes you on a journey to the Himalayas.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVELLERS EXPLORING INDIA.
Do Check It Out.
