DUBAI, UAE- Dubai has taken a major step towards the future of urban transport with the launch of construction works for the new Metro Blue Line, a key infrastructure project that will reshape how people move across the city. Announced under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai the project reflects Dubai’s long-term vision to build a smart, connected, and sustainable city.
The Dubai Metro Blue Line is a 30-kilometre extension of the existing metro network and will include 14 new stations across important residential and commercial areas. Roads and Transport Authority is leading the project, which is expected to cost over AED 20 billion. The line will connect key places such as Dubai Creek Harbour, Mirdif, Al Warqa, International City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Academic City, making daily travel easier for residents and visitors.

The Blue Line will also serve as a vital link between the existing Red and Green metro lines, improving connectivity across the city. With both underground and elevated tracks, the project is designed to handle future demand and support Dubai’s growing population. Officials say the line is expected to serve nearly one million people and reduce traffic congestion by up to 20 percent once fully operational.
Construction of the project is already underway, with major tunnelling works launched recently. The development is progressing steadily, and authorities aim to complete a significant portion of the work by 2026. The full opening is planned for September 9, 2029, which will mark the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro.
Beyond transport, the Blue Line is expected to bring strong economic and social benefits. Areas along the route are likely to see increased property value, better infrastructure, and new business opportunities. The project also supports Dubai’s 2040 Urban Master Plan, which focuses on reducing travel time and improving quality of life for residents.
Overall, the launch of the Metro Blue Line highlights Dubai’s continued investment in world-class infrastructure. It not only strengthens public transport but also supports the city’s ambition to remain one of the most advanced and connected urban centres in the world.
