Dubai, UAE- In a city known for opportunity and ambition, a growing grassroots initiative is quietly redefining what community looks like on the ground.
Passive Blessings, a purpose-led community in Dubai, has been making a tangible impact through consistent acts of giving from weekly meal distributions to creating meaningful experiences for underserved groups across the city.
This past Sunday, its founder, Yusef Bouattoura, returned to the very place that shaped the beginning of his journey in the UAE a labour accommodation in Al Quoz.
One year ago, Yusef arrived in Dubai during one of the lowest points in his life. With no clear direction, he chose to begin again through service, six months later. It was here, among a group of workers known as “One Line,” that he found his first sense of belonging. The group helped him navigate life on the ground, offering guidance, support, and a sense of brotherhood.
“They inspired me to give back when I had nothing,” he reflects.
That connection has since come full circle.
During the visit, Yusef and members of the Passive Blessings community spent time with the workers in their living spaces gaining a firsthand understanding of their daily realities. Later that same day, he invited thirty of them to join his community event for a paintball outing with all the other volunteer members of Passive Blessings, a rare moment of recreation and connection outside their routine. Making them feel “we are all one big family”
But what stood out even more was something deeper.
Many of these labourers earn between AED 600 to AED 1,000 per month, yet despite their limited income, some have chosen to give back contributing a portion of their earnings towards charity initiatives.
For Yusef, this wasn’t just generosity, it was perspective.
“It changes how you see giving,” he shares. “When people who have the least still choose to give, it reminds you what true intention looks like.”
Today, that spirit of giving is embedded into Passive Blessings’ core.
One of its key initiatives is a weekly meal distribution that serves over 2,000 individuals across labour accommodations. During Ramadan, the community scaled its impact significantly delivering up to 100,000 meals through daily distributions.
Beyond immediate relief, Yusef’s long-term vision is focused on transformation.
Some members of the “One Line” group have already transitioned into white-collar roles, while others continue to support charitable efforts through their contributions. For Yusef, the goal is to create more of these pathways where support evolves into opportunity.
Now, with a growing base of over 3,000 active volunteers, he envisions transforming Passive Blessings into an “HQ of Impact” a central space where community, charity, enterprise, and purpose intersect to create sustainable impact with his sponsors, and core team Arwa Abboud, Dontai Anton, Rhys Marshall, Abbey Abott, Dounia Haissouni and Maimuna Rashid, each bringing their years of expertise to grow this initiative.
Reflecting on his recent visit, Yusef shares, “Dubai opens its doors to everyone, but Passive Blessings is about creating opportunities that truly change lives.
The men standing beside me are the backbone of this city. They’re the ones building everything we see and benefit from every day, often without recognition. At Passive Blessings, we stand with them.
Yesterday, they welcomed us into their home in Al Quoz labour camp. The layout and structure hit close to me. It reminded me of my time in prison and, honestly, some of the realest experiences of my life. That brotherhood, that shared struggle, that sense of loyalty and understanding it’s something you don’t forget.
What stood out to me here was that same energy. The way they live sharing rooms, supporting each other, adapting together and looking out for one another. It’s not easy, but there’s something powerful in that unity. It reminded me how strong people can be when they come together, no matter the circumstances.”
As Passive Blessings continues to grow, its mission remains simple yet powerful: to build a community rooted in compassion, dignity, and shared responsibility one that not only supports those in need but creates pathways for long-term change.
In a fast-moving city like Dubai, initiatives like these are a reminder that impact doesn’t always come from scale but from consistency, intention, and the willingness to show up.
