Dubai, UAE- You know Dubai’s outdoor season is getting closer when conversations turn to evening plans, family outings and where to eat under the open sky. For many residents, a visit to Global Village is part of that ritual. And now it is back.

Global Village opened its 31st season on 13 October, bringing together familiar favourites and a few new reasons to visit. The destination will run until May 2027, with 29 pavilions representing more than 90 cultures, over 250 dining options and more than 200 attractions.

Those numbers are impressive, but the real appeal is simpler: it is one of those places where a family can arrive with no fixed plan and still find plenty to do.

A little trip around the world

One minute you might be browsing handmade goods; the next, stopping to watch a performance or trying a snack you have never tasted before. That mix of cultures is what has kept people coming back over the years.

This season brings refreshed experiences to the Sri Lanka, Russia and Azerbaijan pavilions, while Syria and Kuwait have updated façades. There is also a redesigned Season 31 Passport and a Kids Passport, so younger visitors can collect stamps as they explore. It is a small touch that turns a walk through the pavilions into a game.

Something for the thrill-seekers, too

For children and adults who head straight for the rides, Carnaval is back, along with attractions including Dragon Kingdom, The Horror Hotel, Secrets of the Lost City and Exo Planet City.

The Festival Wheel returns with refreshed carts and views across the destination. Later in the season, a new roller coaster called Tokyo Rush is expected to make its debut, with sharp turns, speed and a loop. Those who prefer a quieter evening can take a walk through the refreshed Gardens of the World instead.

Come hungry

It is hard to visit Global Village without making food part of the evening. A quick bite often turns into several stops as different aromas tempt you along the way.

Among the new names at Restaurant Plaza are Trabzon Turkish Restaurant, Robo Al Sham, Hawawshi Al Rabie and Chicking. Vinci Dolci, Emir Bey Gourmet and Uzungol Café also join the line-up, while Dessert District returns with a refreshed look.

With more than 250 places to eat, there is room to try something new or go straight back to an old favourite. Restaurant Plaza overlooks the Falcon Stage, so visitors can also enjoy some entertainment while they dine.

An evening with a show

The entertainment programme is another reason to stay a little longer. Across the season, Global Village is planning 40,000 shows, ranging from music and dance to acrobatics and stunt performances.

New productions include Fast Live 2: The Police Strike Back, Bollywood Idol and Bank Heist. Slam returns, while younger children can look forward to Care Bears and PJ Masks at the Kids Theatre.

The season’s opening celebrations were announced with a Parade of the World, confetti at the Gate of the World and a 600-drone display.

Why families keep returning

After three decades, Global Village has become more than a weekend suggestion. For some families it is an annual tradition; for others it is where visiting relatives get their first taste of Dubai’s many cultures in one evening.

It also reflects something familiar about life in the UAE: different languages, food and traditions sharing the same space. The experience can be lively and busy, but that is part of its charm.

If you are planning a visit, Global Village is open from 4pm to midnight Sunday through Wednesday, and from 4pm to 1am Thursday through Saturday and on public holidays. Tuesdays are reserved for families and ladies, except on public holidays. Tickets are available online, through the app and at the gates.

Whether you go for the rides, the food or simply a long walk with family, there is something comforting about having this Dubai favourite back on the calendar.
