Justice Must Be Guided by Facts, Not Political Narratives; An Editor’s Perspective on the Recent Crushing of Violent Protests by Non-Students and Criminals Allegedly Instigated by CJP in New Delhi, India.

New Delhi / INDIA- Democracy gives every citizen the right to express dissent, but that right ends where violence, destruction of public property, and attacks on law enforcement begin. Any protest that turns into rioting cannot be justified, regardless of the cause or the political ideology behind it.

The controversy surrounding the NEET examination created widespread concern among students and parents across India. After investigations and legal proceedings, authorities ordered re-examinations in affected areas and many students successfully cleared the revised examination process. For many, this helped restore confidence in the system.

However, public debate over the issue also saw political polarization. Different political parties, activists, student groups, and commentators presented sharply different narratives about what had happened. While criticism of government decisions is a legitimate part of democracy, any attempt by individuals to encourage violence or destruction should be investigated and dealt with according to law.

If protesters attacked Indian police personnel, damaged public property, or assaulted female journalists, those responsible are now being identified through lawful investigation and will be prosecuted based on evidence presented before the courts.

Social media has made it easier than ever for selective videos and incomplete information to shape public opinion. Citizens should therefore rely on verified facts, official investigations, and judicial findings rather than viral claims or politically motivated narratives.

India’s democratic institutions are strongest when disagreements are resolved through constitutional means rather than violence on the streets. Peaceful protest is a democratic right. Rioting, vandalism, and attacks on public servants are criminal acts and should be treated as such under the law.

Ultimately, preserving public order while protecting democratic freedoms is a responsibility shared by citizens, law enforcement agencies, political leaders, and the media alike.

The rule of law, not emotion or political rhetoric, must remain the guiding principle.
